LITIGATION AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION

i. Courts Department

The courts department is typically overseen by a chief justice or other senior judicial official, and it operates independently from the legislative and executive branches of government. This independence is seen as critical to maintaining the integrity and impartiality of the courts and ensuring that they can fulfil their role as an impartial arbiter of justice. The courts department is also responsible for ensuring that all individuals have access to justice, regardless of their social status or financial means. This can include providing legal assistance to those who cannot afford it, as well as ensuring that the courts are accessible and culturally sensitive to the needs of diverse communities.

The courts department also plays a key role in protecting individual rights and liberties. For example, courts may hear cases involving issues such as freedom of speech, religious freedom, and privacy rights, and they may issue decisions that set legal precedent and shape the interpretation of these rights for years to come. Overall, the courts department is a vital component of the justice system and a cornerstone of democracy. By providing an impartial and accessible forum for the resolution of disputes, the courts help to ensure that justice is done and that individual rights and liberties are protected.
